Since it was established, in 1990, the National Scientific Research Institute for Labour and Social Protection – INCSMPS (www.incsmps.ro) has performed scientific research activities in the field of labor market and social protection, thus supporting Romania’s efforts to create and develop a sustainable economy, based on modern, European principles. The establishment of the institute was necessary in creating the scientific expertise in the socioeconomic field in Romania, and acknowledgement of its importance in the context of the changes that occurred starting with 1990. In accordance with the general institutional development policy in the field of R&D, in 1996 the quality of the institute’s achievements was assessed and acknowledged, by means of awarding it the status of national institute (GD no. 1305/1996, modified and completed by GD no. 1773/21/10.2004). The INCSMPS has a specilised team (economists and sociologists)within the Social Policies Departement (Policies for the Elderly) with experience in social policies and interest in ageing process, elderly and social services for elderly, worklife balance, active ageing. The team has expertise in methodologies for quantitative and qualitative researches used to assess social policies, perceptions of disadvantaged elderly (disabled persons), quality of social services. Currently the team is involved in FP 7 Project MOPACT – „Mobilising the potential of active ageing in Europe” (2013-2017).
