Embedded Software and Hardware Design

Our organisation type is:: University, Research institution

We are active in the following Technologies: Hardware, sensors, actuators, Information technologies, data storage and processing (back end), Interfaces, software (front end), Integration, Communication technologies / Tele-systems, Learning & Training, Knowledge transfer

Applications: Health & wellness, Hobbies , Home care, Information and learning, Knowledge Transfer

The Reconfigurable & Embedded Digital Systems (REDS) institute, which is attached to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) of the HEIG-VD, has strong R&D expertise in high-performance embedded systems. The activities of the Institute rely on three strategical axes:
  • Hardware-oriented Efficient Information Processing
  • Software-oriented Heterogeneous Device Support
  • Integrated Design of Embedded Systems

Core competencies

Hardware design

  • Schematics and layout
  • Design for programmable logic (FPGA, CPLD) in VHDL/Verilog
  • Simulation and verification: UVM, SytemVerilog, SystemC

Embedded software

  • Embedded and real time operating systems: embedded Linux, various RTOS, Android
  • Low-level software and middleware: OS adaptations, drivers
  • Embedded virtualisation
  • Software for heterogeneous devices (CPU, GPU, DSP, FPGA,...)

These competencies were applied in different large scale research projects (FP7, nano-tera)as, for example:

Perplexus (FP7)
ISyPeM (nano-tera)
QCrypt (nano-tera)
